Best States for Government Jobs

Kyle Stone | GovCentral Editor

The best states for government jobs are in the Southeastern and Pacific regions. Not surprisingly, two states affected by Hurricane Katrina, Louisiana and Mississippi, have also seen some of the largest increases in state and local government employment over the past year.

Federal government job growth is not keeping pace with that of state and local governments. The majority of these states actually saw decreases in federal government employment during the same period. In Georgia, for instance, there was an increase of 16,700 local anf 4,700 state government employees in the past year, but federal employment declined slightly, by 300 employees.

It figures- the fastest growth is happening everywhere EXCEPT the NY/NJ area. I'll have to look into my area in greater detail to get a better handle on the situation, but the findings of this article are a bit disheartening. Onward!
